But when the White House is attacked and the president is in need he’s the only hope left since everyone else has either been killed or captured. Cale is seeking a job in the Secret Service but is denied since he doesn’t seem to respect authority which is ironic since he’s a part of law enforcement. It seems like sometimes the most unbelievable rescues come from the most unlikely people, at least in the eyes of some. As he begins to take the terrorists out one by one those on the ground have to come up with a way to bring the plane down without giving in to the terrorists, and without getting everyone killed. The president is thought to have been evacuated, but instead remained behind as his escape pod was jettisoned. Without stopping to debate that right now this time around the terrorists, ex-soldiers and loyalists to a cruel despot that was imprisoned in the first act of the movie, have taken over Air Force One and are holding the president’s family and cabinet, as well as the crew of the plane, hostage. In the movies it seems terrorists love to go after the POTUS as he is usually considered to be one of the most powerful men in the world by many.
After all, Banning was the head of the president’s security detail, which means he’s highly versed in combat and tactics. Along the way he dispatches one terrorist after another, staying in contact with Speaker of the House Trumbull, who is convinced that Banning can get the job done. Banning, who was dismissed from duty after the death of the president’s wife, soon enough becomes the only man that is qualified, or left, to make his way into the White House and secure the president’s son before going after the president.
You get to see Banning in action for the first time when terrorists take over the White House and capture the president along with several of his high-ranking cabinet members. Here are a few movies that might satisfy your need for action if you liked London Has Fallen. He’s the kind of guy you don’t tick off without a very good reason and a whole lot of firepower to slow him down. His brutal tactics and extensive knowledge of how things work in any given situation is invaluable and his ability to mow through opponents is absolutely impressive. Banning is like the super agent that you don’t get to see very often any more, maybe a step below Ethan Hunt but not a big step. When the president is captured he still doesn’t stop, moving forward like determined pitbull to take back the president and let the terrorists know that they messed with the wrong people. True to form he takes out bad guys wherever he can with ruthless aggression and no apologies as he seeks to protect the US president, all the while trying to figure out just who the terrorists are and how they can root them out. Banning was after all instrumental in getting the White House back in the first movie which means he was bound to be just as ruthless and just as determined in this movie. Thankfully they didn’t really count on the American president or his top agent being a little early off the draw, which means they left one seriously loose end to consider.
